The good thing about America, that there is a lively debate about the tax system. Even though it has to happen on the most un-american news network: Al Jazeera.
The fundamental question being asked:
Do we really want a tax system that exacerbates income inequality?
The US has a long history of inequality and what we can see that Amercans can live with that, as long as there is equality in opportunity. However, research shows us very clearly, this is not the case. As Richard Wilkinson puts it:
People seeking the American dream, should rather start living in Denmark.
So how can Americans still accept the huge income inequality in comparison to other developed states? It may be very well because of the huge influence of the rich and powerful corporations and individuals on the democratic system. Or is it all just each individuals own fault?
