Nice documentary with Aljazeera’s Marwan Bishara on the influence of money in the democratic process in the US. Many things we have already discussed before, however it is interesting how Republicans always take some small, single example to make their point, despite the clear statistics. Of course, money is only free speech for those who have it!
What was really new for me was the comparison of Iran with the USA. Essentially, in Iran a council determines whether candidates are “morally fitted”, whereas in the US the wealthy select. How? Simply, if you want to become a member of congress or the senate you need minimum one million dollar or more for your campaign. So, you have to prove yourself being accepted by the “council of the rich” or you may already belong to it yourself. Give it a thought!
